"Voice of the Ancients" was born from a rather simple yet inspiring lead sound I created on the Moog Grandmother, the first few notes I played on the keys with this sound became the foundation of the track.

The sound is played in two separate audio elements, the second part has the higher octave improv lead part which I chopped up and placed at various points.

As these parts looped around I could hear a human voice accompanying these synth parts in my head. I grabbed my portable zoom recorder and with my headphones I tried my best to perform some vocal textures along with what I had already played. Out of the two minutes or so of various vocal passes I found one that appeared to work, I sampled it and treated in various ways and played it on the keys at different octaves, I was surprised how natural it sounded to my ears and I moved forward with the track.

Programmed Drums and percussive parts plus other found sounds, further Moog sounds were created until I had a structure that I could work with.

Unintentionally I feel I created perhaps something that harks back to an era of the early 90's Ambient that fused subtle ethnic elements with a strong FAX records influence in particular.

Written and recorded between the 16th/18th of November 2022.

Zoom Z1 portable recorder.
Ableton Live 10 for audio arranging, digital treatments and FX.
Virtual 808 style drum kit.
