Its been a while since I've created anything that perhaps could
fit into an often saturated genre "Space Ambient"

Late one night in May of 2020 I created a patch on the Moog Grandmother which I played some improvised passages, one particular section kinda resonated with me, sounding like a musical alert from some lunar craft so I looped that section.

I turned to the MS20 and turned its dials to find a deep bass drone and then added various patching and modulation settings to change the tone in various ways over time. Another lengthy improvisation was captured with the MS2O that worked in a deep and mysterious way to me, it was late so I saved my session and went to bed.

The next day, while in work various parts were floating through my head and I had some mental ideas where to go next. I went through a folder of recorded sounds from various films that I had been building up. I took some machine like sounds which I pitched and manipulated in various ways to suit the sonic back drop I already had. I then added some improvised voice like pads from the Prophet Rev 2 which I had edited to suit the building structure, some more Moog, some more MS20 and more Rev2 by that night I had a total of 23 individual elements that I could play around with and all seemed to work well together.

The following day I mixed and arranged pretty much what you hear now in the final mix.

I hope this track manages to keep your attention as it passes through various sections which hopefully conjures up eerie atmospheres and emotions.

I also avoided the temptation to use blatantly obvious sound bites from the movies which was very popular in the early to mid 90's and often used as a cheap trick to give a track a certain kudos or make appear deeper than the music actually is.

To me "So far From Home" sounds like a lonely journey through some of the deepest yet unexplored galaxies with only the sounds of the machines onboard to keep you company.

Only you the listener can decide where this piece of music takes you for almost 60 minutes.
