about

Oceanus Procellarum was written and produced in October of 2022.
It was the second piece "Gravitational Anomalies" that was created first by using just the Moog Grandmother, creating the trippy bass sequence first and then the improv synth lead. The track sat on my hard drive for a week or so as an unfinished idea sketch.

A few days later from a patch creating exercise on my Prophet Rev2 I created an interesting deep pad with shifting filter frequencies, I played two separate pieces using the newly created sound that worked as a dark shifting atmosphere.

Other sounds developed and there seemed to be a relationship of dark and light, with the right arranging and placing of the various elements all with slightly different bar durations over time, all of these musical motif's will interplay with one another and create new subtle counterpoints yet retain its overall mood, so hence a track for a long form experience hopefully.

Once the piece was finished, I felt the other Moog based sketch may fit with a theme that sort harks back to the more hypnotic style of Ambient electronica of the early to mid 90's also with hints of 70's style Berlin School.

So, I retuned to "Gravitational Anomalies" with a mindset to make it more hypnotic/atmospheric and also introduce some downtempo polyrhythms, in a sort of downtempo breakbeat style but with a somewhat experimental minimalistic feel.
