Over the years I have received some very nice emails that my music has been an affective tool for some of my listeners with their particular mediative practices & sleep issues.

Although meditation is something I had never practiced myself I often felt that the creative process was a similar experience in that your focus goes away the from endless stream of thought often negative and it worked as an escape from my often over working mind.

In recent times I have had some struggles and challenges which had become amplified after a severe head injury and I really needed something to help with the rather slow & fluctuating recovery.

In the past I had tried to meditate but found it very difficult and didn't receive the desired results from these attempts, this was probably mainly due to my lack of understanding in the mechanics and a lack of belief in the process.

Recently while watching some David Lynch related videos on youtube I found out that the much loved movie writer & director was a advocate of a particular kind of mediation. I found this fascinating as I find him to be a super interesting human on a creative, philosophical, & spiritual level.

A sixteen minute video of him explaining his particular practice made total sense to me and it gave me a new perspective & decided to attempt some sessions with a new found enthusiasm.

Within a few days I began to feel some benefits of this, however the mind mantra wasn't the most fitting for me and decided to try with just sound which I felt worked better and less distracting.

From this experience I decided that maybe it would be a good idea to create my own meditation sound works that I could tailor make to fit the desired 15 to 20 minutes or so that most people find the most suitable duration for meditative sessions.

I was mindful that these works needed to be minimal & not suggest any particular feelings or thoughts but needed some movements that you could focus on and follow. I just used my Prophet Rev2 Synthesiser and started with a raw two oscillator patch and edited from these until I had a sound that I felt would work well with sustained notes firstly and then some gentle shifting repeating/alternating chords that could be gently manipulated via filters, modulation & subtle effects over varying times.

While I have not studied the science of frequencies that may work best I just followed my ears based on what I consider calming sound and notes.

There a four pieces to use or choose from and I hope that at least one of these may work for meditative purposes or at least as a sonic backdrop to aid a sense of calm and relaxation & maybe even aid sleep.
